What is a DNS address?

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It's like the internet's phone book, translating human-friendly domain names (like www.example.com) into the IP addresses computers use to identify each other on the internet.

DNS addresses are the specific IP addresses of DNS servers that help your device find the right IP address for a given domain when you browse the web or use online services.

 

What does changing a DNS address do?

Changing your device's DNS addresses can increase your connection stability, help you connect in environments that restrict connectivity, protect you from malicious websites, block adverts, and others.

It must be noted, though, that the effects of changing DNS depend on the DNS address you choose to use. While you are connected to Surfshark, they are automatically changed to Surfshark's. However, in some cases, an additional manual override may be necessary.
