How do trusted networks work?

In this article, we will cover everything about trusted networks in the Surfshark application for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS.

We will go through the following:

  1. What does choosing trusted networks do?
  2. How to choose trusted networks?

NOTE: If you add a network to your trusted networks list, your VPN will be disabled for the time you are using that particular network.

What does choosing trusted networks do?

Once you add a network to the trusted networks list, the VPN connection will not be used for the period connected to that particular network. As you have marked the current network as trusted, the application knows that a VPN connection is not required for this network.

Choosing trusted networks is a part of the Auto-connect feature, and it will only work with Auto-connect enabled.

How to choose trusted networks?

Let's say you are out in town on your mobile network, connected to Surfshark. You come back home, and you connect to your home network, which you have added to the list of trusted networks. Once you connect to this trusted network, your VPN will disconnect automatically.

You can add or remove trusted networks with the following steps:

  1. Go to the Settings of the Surfshark app.

  2. Open the VPN Settings.

  3. Enable the Auto-connect feature and press Preferences.

  4. Add a network to the list of Trusted Networks.
